WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

5th June: WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Arts, Biology and Physics and Chemistry

Biology: students looked for information about plastic contamination in our seas and oceans and they recorded a video to show its effects and make people aware of that problem as well as of the need to reuse, recycle and reduce the use of plastic.

Physics and Chemistry: students have created bioplastics made of food waste, like corn or candies, and they have made posters to show the entire process as well as the bioplastics themselves.

Arts: a huge wave made out of plastic waste that seemed to cover us was made to represent the terrible consequences of plastic contamination of our seas and oceans.

History and Geography

Students made posters that focused on the environmental effects of wars, like the atomic bomb of Iroshima and Nagasaki or other historical environmental disasters like the oil crisis or the toxic mining spill from the mine in Aználcóllar into Doñana National and Natural Park, leading to serious environmental damage.

Physical Education

There were two activities:

1.- The class was divided into groups and students took part in smart relay races, where physical activity is combined with learning concepts. Each group was given a few minutes to read a text in English about recycling. Once they had read it, the first member of the group had to run to a specific point where they would find a worksheet with questions. They had to answer the first question before returning to their team. The process continued until all group members had participated and the worksheet has been completed.

As a variation of the reading activity, another relay race involved matching the names of different foods or types of waste with the correct recycling container. This activity encouraged teamwork, reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and physical engagement.

2.- 1st year of ESO students took part in an awareness-raising activity focused on the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.

During the day, we carried out a plogging activity, combining physical exercise with litter collection in the areas surrounding the school. Afterwards, students correctly sorted the collected waste into the appropriate recycling bins, reinforcing the importance of the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

In addition, students worked on specific English vocabulary related to the environment, recycling and sustainability, promoting the integrated learning of content and a foreign language.

The activity helped students develop values such as respect, responsibility and commitment towards the environment, while encouraging sustainable habits in their everyday lives.

Technology

Students made a web page with a recycling proyect that could be used in any school.

Maths

1st ESO students have worked on the food waste footprint in our planet.

English

Students made posters and explanations about different aspects related to environment like the 3 Rs, planned obsolence, how to reduce paper use at school, tik tok videos on recycling, etc.
