HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Like last year, CLIL as well as linguistic teachers have carried out different activities and tasks about the same topic: Halloween.

ARTS
To celebrate Halloween, the 3rd year ESO students carried out the project "The Monster in Me" in their Visual Arts class. In this project, they combined their own faces with monstrous facial expressions using their mobile phones in a creative and fun way. To finish the project, they made a frame for their photos, working with contrasts using white pencil on black cardstock and cut-out silhouette edges.

BIOLOGY

Students have worked on the human skeleton and muscles, studying the bones, the joints and muscles, as well as their main functions. They have also made great works representing human tissues in zombies, take a look at them!

ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Students have written puzzles in English about vocabulary related to Halloween. Can you guess any? They also decorated classroom doors and made Halloween related mockups to participate in a contest. Congratultions!!

HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY
We worked on the subject of Hallowe'en around the world. For half of the groups, we worked in Hallowe'en as a festivity in Spain, examining how Hallowe'en has been celebrated in various famous Spanish cities (like Cádiz, Sevilla, Madrid, Barcelona...). For the remaining groups we worked on the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos, the Mexican Hallow's Eve), both in Mexico and the USA, and also about the Celtic festivity of Samhain (pronounced "Saween"), which many scholars consider the pagan origins of our present day Hallowe'en. We produced colorful informative banners talking about these different subjects to inform the rest of the high school about the different customs around the 31st of October.

MATHS
Students have tried to solve mathematical problems where they had to use the least and the greatest common factor.

P.E.
Escape room: students had to solve a series of puzzles related to fitness within a certain amount of time to accomplish a goal.

PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY

This Halloween, we became true scientists — and maybe a little bit witches and wizards too! We explored five terrifyingly fun experiments in our Physics and Chemistry lab:

- The Halloween Lava Lamp

- Haunted Flames. The Fire Oracle

- The Rising Ghost Balloon

- The Alchemist’s Curse. The Black Stones and

- The Sorcerer’s Lollipop.

Each experiment mixed mystery with science, colors with reactions, and laughter with learning. We discovered that chemistry can be magical — and we had an amazing time together bringing spooky science to life in the lab!

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Students of 2ºESO E have created 19 horror short stories through the technique "exquisite corpse",which consists in a collaborative artistic creation technique where participants build a story in turns, each one without knowing the others’ contributions, resulting in a surprising and collective final piece. The technique is based on passing around a folded sheet to hide previous contributions, and at the end it is unfolded to reveal the complete work.  They have enjoyed a lot!!

TECHNOLOGY
With this Technology activity, students in the 3rd year of ESO have used Tinkercad to design 3D Halloween-themed objects such as pumpkins, ghosts, skulls, and other decorative elements related to this celebration. Through this task, students learned to use three-dimensional modeling tools, developed their creativity, and applied concepts of geometry, volume, and symmetry, as well as gained an understanding of the design process prior to 3D printing.

Competencies developed:

Digital competence: use of digital 3D design tools.

Mathematical competence and competence in science, technology and engineering (STEM): application of geometric and technological principles in a virtual environment.

Personal, social and learning-to-learn competence: autonomous work and development of perseverance when facing creative challenges.

Cultural awareness and expression competence: design of objects linked to a specific cultural theme (Halloween).
